My story
Discover the journey of Pepper Paints, an artist who found solace and expression through painting after a life-altering Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Explore how art became a healing force and a powerful voice. Welcome to a story of resilience, passion, and the transformative power of art.

From biology to brushstrokes
I am a retired Biology teacher with a diverse academic background, including undergraduate degrees in Philosophy & Psychology and a Master's in Theology from Vanderbilt University, as well as a second Master's in Education. Three months after my TBI on December 29th, 2024, I felt compelled to paint and express myself. Despite having NO formal training in painting or art, I now paint several times a week. It heals and soothes me. Painting is a raw need within my deepest self.

A message of hope and resilience
I hope my story and art convey a powerful message to those facing similar challenges: live life like you might have a TBI before something actually happens. If someone believes you can do nothing, remember that you can do everything. My art is a testament to overcoming adversity and embracing the possibilities that lie ahead.

Influences beyond the accident
Several key life events have shaped my artistic style and vision. These include being raised a Jehovah's Witness and disliking it, attending Vanderbilt Divinity School as an agnostic and graduating as an atheist, becoming a mom and a Grammy, graduating from Vanderbilt, and having to leave teaching due to the TBI. These experiences have deeply influenced my perspective and are reflected in my art.
"I want visitors to be inspired to live life doing what 'you' want and to live your passion."
